Solar Pool Heating
Dependant on the efficiency and fuel type of the heater being compared to.
Heating your pool with an efficient solar pool heater is the answer to dramatically extending your swimming season and getting the most from your investment, while saving energy and money using clean, renewable solar power.
A solar swimming pool heater uses your existing pump to circulate the water in your pool through the system.
When comparing pool heaters, it's important to know that while propane and electric heaters can offer a lower initial investment, the cost of fuel needed to run them rapidly adds up season after season. Propane is the most expensive type of system, followed by Natural gas (if its an option for your house) and then electric, which all incur fuel costs.
Solar swimming pool heaters cost absolutely nothing to operate, since energy from the sun is FREE. And because the system is fully automatic and has few moving parts, it is virtually maintenance-free. Solar powered pool heaters are also 100% eco-friendly. All you need to do is set the temperature, and enjoy warm water for a much longer swim season without worrying about your energy bill, or damage to the environment.
How it works
The process begins with an automatic control that senses any change in sunlight or water temperature and relays this information to a control valve. The control valve then diverts or channels the pool water to the solar collectors (panels), when sufficient energy is available, or bypasses them when heat is not needed.
The water is efficiently heated by the solar collectors, which can be mounted either on a roof or ground rack, as it flows through the passageways within the collectors. The water then flows back into your pool through the return lines at your desired temperature. The vented web allows for moisture ventilation for the roof as well as wind load relief during adverse weather conditions, making the entire system more resilient. The fluted surface design, which has received one of the highest performance ratings ever recorded, provides over 10% more collector area.
